Apple Crisp

Warm apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg make this classic crisp an easy, comforting dessert. The oat topping bakes up golden and crunchy while the apples underneath become tender and sweet. Serve it warm as-is or add a little cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

What You’ll Need

  • 4 cups sliced, peeled tart apples (about 4 medium apples)

  • ⅔–¾ cup packed brown sugar

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup oats

  • ¾ teaspoon cinnamon

  • ¾ teaspoon nutmeg

  • ⅓ cup butter or margarine, softened

How To Make It

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

  2. Grease an 8 x 8-inch square baking dish.

  3. Arrange the sliced apples evenly in the prepared pan.

  4. In a bowl, thoroughly mix the brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon, nutmeg, and softened butter.

  5. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the apples.

  6. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.

  7. Serve warm, with light cream or ice cream if desired.

Cherry Crisp Variation: Substitute one 21-ounce can of cherry pie filling for the apples and reduce the amount of sugar.
