Step 1

Read Our Program Guidelines

Before applying, please take a few minutes to read the Program Guidelines. They explain what to expect as a participant and how Birch partners with families to build financial stability through community, accountability, and education.

You’ll learn about:

  • Program commitments: What participation looks like, including employment, monthly dues, volunteering, and communication with staff.

  • Financial literacy at Birch: How one-on-one counseling, the re$tart course, and follow-up check-ins support your family’s goals.

  • Shopping and volunteering: How our warehouse and volunteer system work to keep costs low and the community strong.

  • The application process: Steps from submitting a pre-application to completing onboarding and your first shop.

  • Our cultural values: The shared principles that shape how we serve, learn, and grow together.

Accessibility Note

Birch welcomes families from all backgrounds. To ensure clear communication and safety in the warehouse, a primary household member must be able to communicate in English while shopping and volunteering. Financial counseling and classes are also available in Spanish, and we’re continuing to expand language support over time.
