Personalized computer help is now available the first and third Friday of each month from 1:30 -3:30 PM in our new Computer Lab in warehouse #3.

Unless otherwise specified, all classes take place at the Birch Community Services Warehouse located at 17780 NE San Rafael Street Portland, Oregon 97230

  • Money Maniac Couponing Class  
    The next classes begin Monday, March 15, 2010 from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
    Kadie Hambleton will facilitate this enormously profitable seminar using the Money Maniac System for Coupon and Other Outrageous Grocery Strategies, written by Jessica Richardson and Kim LaRue. It will be presented in four segments on Mondays, March 8, 15, 22, and 29, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the BCS warehouse lunchroom. A fee of $10, refundable at the completion of all four classes, holds your spot for this seminar that is sure to fill up quickly. Class size limited to 12.

  • Beginning Serger Sewing   
    The next classes begin Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
    Have a Serger sewing machine in your closet? Learn how to use it with confidence at the Beginning Serger Sewing Class taught by experienced serger, Murna Sparks. You'll discover how to create memorable projects that will delight your friends and family! Sign up today as this class is limited to 5 students. Please bring: *Serger *manual for serger *different color thread for each looper and needle *basic sewing kit (scissors, etc.) *any serger equipment *scrap fabric A $10 refundable registration fee holds your place in this class. Fee will be refunded upon attendance.

  • Seed Sowing Lab  
    The next classes begin Saturday, March 13, 2010 from 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM
    In the Seed Sowing Lab you'll gain a better understanding of culture & care, container options, terminology (yes, it’s important!) and basic seed information. We'll also offer some helpful tips on using cold frames, and much more. Class size is limited to 20 students, so sign up today! Please bring: recycled butter tubs, seeds, ½ egg shells (yes, egg shells!), potting soil/seed starting mix, a box, pan, or flat in which to put seeded containers. Instructor: Patty Hicks A $10 registration fee holds your place in this class and is refundable upon attendance.

  • Gardening Group  
    The next classes begin Monday, March 15, 2010 from 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
    The BCS Gardening Group will meet every 3rd Monday of every month beginning February 22, 2010 and continuing through October 18, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30p.m. Our first meeting will cover "How to Shop at a Nursery". In future classes, we will be learning about different gardening techniques as well as discussing issues relevant to the season. Feel free to come when you can. However, we would like to know you're coming. Please sign up for meetings at the check-in desk at Birch Community Services. Thank you!

  • Authentic Honduran Tamales

  • Basic Cake Decorating  
    The next classes begin Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
    Come learn how to: fill a decorating bag, make the icing consistency just right, precisely color icing , hold the icing bag at different angles for various decorations, transfer decorations to a cake plus a whole lot more! Please bring a baked, non-frosted, 2-layer cake and any cake decorating supplies you may have on hand. Class size limited to 12 students. Register today! Adults only please.   • Good $ense Class   
    The next classes begin Tuesday, April 13, 2010 from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
    Good $ense curriculum is based on Christian principles and designed by the Willow Creek Association* to help you make a measurable difference in your life. If you and your spouse are committed to putting order to your financial life, we encourage you to participate in this life-changing series. These meetings are facilitated by Egbert Kunrath (past president of the BCS Board of Directors) who is an insurance/investment counselor. Egbert will be available to answer any questions that come up during the Good $ense course. **

    *This is Christian-based curriculum  ** A $15.00 workbook fee is the only cost for this class 

    The Spring session of the Good $ense class begins Tuesday evening, April 13, 2010 from 7 to 9 p.m.  This series continues on consecutive Tuesdays for a total of six evening classes.

      (Resource Management, Security, File Management, Provide and Interface)
    • Using the Interface
      (mouse, pointers, icons, windows, shortcuts, toolbars, etc)
    • File Management
      (Name and Location for Drives, Folders, and Files, using Windows Explorer,
      Common Application file extensions - jpg, wav, mp3, doc, xls, etc.)
    • Hardware Management
      (Device manager, drivers, common errors)
